Alanya Information
It is easy to feel at home in Alanya as German and English is spoken nearly everywhere. At Christmas time the shops are stocked with fir trees and Santa Claus and pork and rye-bread is available ýn the supermarkets which ýs not usual for a Moslem country. German and English newspapers and magazines are readily available and since the beginning of 1999 Alanya receives, with a simple satellite system, a variety of foreign TV channels. The opening of a church is being planned for those who wish to follow their religious obligations and for the younger children there are also several kindergardens available.
Alanya, the small city on the Turkish Riviera with approx. 110.000 inhabitants, becomes much more popular every day for European tourists, as well as for those Europeans who have selected this small city as the second home for themselves. According to official data at this time approx. 6.000 European citizens live in Alanya.
Alanya has a pleasant climate with average temperatures of approx. 12 - 18ºC in the winter and has at least eleven months of radiant sunshine. Alanya has long and delightful sandy beaches (among them the famous Cleopatra Beach) against a backdrop of beautýful výews of the enormous Taurus Mountains. The air is pleasant and clean, there is low industry and numours interesting and historic places to visit which together with the helpfulness and friendliness of the Turkish people all make Alanya much more attractive. Via a recently developed motorway from the airport in Antalya, which is approx. 130 km away, you can reach Alanya in approximately 90 minutes. There will also shortly be a new airport set in Gazipasa which is approx. 30 km's from Alanya and will be reachable in approximately 30 minutes.
